一、自 然 之 光 顯 示 有 一 位 上 帝 , 掌 管 萬 有 , 有 至 高 主 權 , 本 為 善 , 又 向 萬人行善,因此人當盡心、 盡性、 盡力、 盡意地敬畏、 愛慕、 讚美、求 告 、 信靠、 事奉祂。 但是敬拜這位真上帝,必須要按照祂自己設立的法則,限於祂自己啟示的旨意,才可蒙祂悅納。 所以我們不可按人的想像和道理,撒但的提(建)議,而以任何可見的表象,或其他非聖經所規定的方法來敬拜上帝。
The light of nature shows that there is a God who has lordship and sovereignty over all, that he is good and does good to all, and that he ought therefore to be feared, loved, praised, prayed to, trusted in, and served with all the heart, and with all the soul, and with all the might (a). But the acceptable way of worshiping the true God has been instituted by himself, and so limited by his own revealed will, that he may not be worshiped according to the imaginations or devisings of men, or the suggestions of Satan, or under any visible representation, or any other way not commanded in Holy Scripture (b).
二、惟獨父神、 神子、 聖靈才能受宗教的敬拜,天使、聖徒,或任何其他受造物,都不當受敬拜。人類墮落之後,敬拜並非沒有中保,也不憑任何其他的居間和解,乃惟獨以基督為中保。
Religious worship is to be given to God alone – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (c). It is not to be given to angels, saints, or any other creature (d). And since the Fall, worship is not to be given except through a mediator, nor is it to be given through any mediator other than Christ (e).
三、既然禱告是宗教敬拜的主要部分要以感謝為禱告,上帝就吩咐每個人都要禱告。 此外,如果禱告要蒙垂聽,就必得奉聖子的名、有聖靈幫助、 遵上帝的旨意,用悟性、 謙卑、 熱心、 信心、 和恆心,若是出聲禱告,還要用人所明白的言語。
Prayer with thanksgiving is a special part of religious worship (f) and is required by God of all men (g). In order that prayer may be accepted, it is to be made in the name of the Son (h), by the help of his Spirit (i), and according to his will (k). Prayer is to be offered with understanding, reverence, humility, fervency, faith, love, and perseverance (l). If vocal, it must be offered in a language that is understood (m).
四、如果是為事禱告,必須是合法的事;如果是為人禱告,可以是為各種各類的人,但必須是現在還活著的人,或是未來將要出生的人;但不可為死人禱告,也不可為那些可知已犯至於死的罪之人禱告。
Prayer is to be made for things that are lawful (n) and for all kinds of men now alive or who will live at a later time (o). But it is wrong to pray for the dead (p) or for those known to have committed the sin unto death (q).
五、以虔誠敬畏的心誦讀聖經;以順服的心,用悟性、信心,和敬虔的態度講道,沒有偏離,以同樣的心態聽道,不違背良心,心被恩感歌唱詩篇 ,合宜並按理施行基督所設立的聖禮,都是敬拜上帝的正常內容;此外,以及特殊場合的如宗教上的起誓 (按牧、婚禮)、 許願、 嚴肅的禁食,感恩等,在各不同的元素的時候,都要以聖潔敬虔的方式舉行。
The various elements of the ordinary religious worship of God are the reading of the Scriptures with reverence (r); the sound preaching (s) and conscientious hearing of the Word in obedience to God, with understanding, faith, and reverence (t); the singing of Psalms with grace in the heart (u); and the proper administration and worthy receiving of the sacraments instituted by Christ (w). Also, on special occasions and at appropriate times, there are other elements of worship, namely, religious oaths (x), vows (y), solemn fasts (z), and thanksgivings (a). These are to be used in a holy and devout manner (b).
六、無論是禱告,還是宗教敬拜的其他任何內容,在今天的福音時期,和舉行的地點方向無關,也不因為在哪個地方,朝哪個方向舉行,就會更蒙悅納;我們應該在任何地方以靈和真理敬拜上帝,無論是每天 在各人家中,還是個人私下單獨,或在比較嚴肅的公共聚會中,都是這樣。尤其上帝既然以祂的聖言或護理呼召我們參加公共聚會,我們就不可疏忽或故意不重視,甚至放棄。
Under the gospel, neither prayer nor any other part of religious worship is now limited to – or made more acceptable by – any particular place where it is performed or toward which it is directed (c). On the contrary, God is to be worshiped everywhere (d) in spirit and truth (e). He should be worshiped daily (f) in families (g), and privately by individuals (h), and with greater solemnity in public worship services. Such worship services are not to be carelessly or willfully neglected or forsaken when God by his Word or his providence calls people to them (i).
七、一般來說,撥出適當比例的時間敬拜上帝,是合乎自然常理的;所以上帝在聖經中特別指定七日中的一日為安息日,並且以正面的語氣將它歸成道德誡命,永遠遵守,吩咐歷世歷代每個人都要向祂守這日為聖。從世界開始到基督復活之前,這聖日為一週的末一日,自從基督復活之後,這聖日改為一週的頭一日,在聖經中稱為主日,而且要繼續下去。這是基督教的安息日,直到世界的末了。
As it is the law of nature that, in general, a proper proportion of time ought to be set apart for the worship of God, so God in his Word – by a positive, moral, and perpetual commandment binding all men in all ages – has specifically appointed one day in seven for a Sabbath to be kept holy to him (k). From the beginning of the world to the resurrection of Christ, the appointed Sabbath was the last day of the week. Beginning with the resurrection of Christ, the Sabbath was changed to the first day of the week (l), which in Scripture is called the Lord’s day (m), a day to be continued until the end of the age as the Christian Sabbath (n).
八、所以人當向主守這安息日為聖,而且要事先適當預備自己的心,整頓日常事務,不但要整日停止自己的工作、 言談、 思想、 屬世的職務和消遣,保守聖潔的安息;也要用全部的時間舉行公開或私下的敬拜,並履行賙濟憐憫(探訪)貧苦人的義務。
This Sabbath is then kept holy to the Lord when men, after due preparation of their hearts and arranging of their common affairs beforehand, not only observe a holy rest, all the day, from their own works, words, and thoughts concerning their everyday occupations and recreations (o), but also devote the whole time to the public and private exercises of God’s worship and to the duties of necessity and mercy (p).
